2024 Sustainability Report – People and Planet
Sustainability is central to our company ethos. In 2024, we took a major step by officially updating our articles of association to make sustainability a central part of our mission. It’s our way of affirming our commitment to balancing people, planet, and profit, and ensuring that we’re always working toward a better and more sustainable future. Alongside profit, people and planet are a central consideration in strategic decision making. Our 2024 People and Planet report celebrates the positive impact we have had on people and planet in 2024, our EcoVadis Platinum certification and our sustainability objectives for 2025.
People
People are central to our mission at Icertech. We want to have a positive impact on anyone who engages with us as a company, our staff, local community, suppliers and customers. In 2024 we introduced employee volunteer days and a workplace health scheme, in addition to retaining our investors in people accreditation. Through a cake sale and hike up Snowdon we raised £1,600 for Wales Air Ambulance. We continued our sponsorship of Theatr Clwyd through their Memory Café and Bursaries scheme. We also continued our sponsorship of Xplore! promoting children’s engagement with STEAM. Around Christmas we supported the most vulnerable in our community through packing essentials boxes.
Planet
To provide context; 2024 saw a 13% increase in turnover and a 89% increase in production hours on 2023. Additionally, we installed another 79 solar panels, increasing capacity by 68%. Through self-generating 50% of all electricity used we saved 12.5tCO2e. Notable changes include a switch to Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil as the fuel in our truck, this sustainable fuel source is a drop-in replacement for diesel and reduces emissions by 90% at the tailpipe, saving 25tCO2e in 2024. Furthermore, in October 2024 we switched to a renewable gas tariff, something that we are excited to reap the full benefits of in 2025. In 2024 we were able to calculate our entire organisations footprint, calculating our Scope 3 footprint for the first time, alongside our Scope 1 and 2 footprint as previously reported. This gives a much greater resolution to our total environmental impact and allows us to set reduction targets, and a comprehensive plan to achieve these. We have the objective to achieve Net Zero within Scope 1 and 2 by 2030, and a 3% reduction in Scope 3 annually. Our total footprint was 568 tCO2. We reduced our Scope 1&2 footprint by 53% from our 2022 baseline.
Our commitment to people and planet continues into 2025 and beyond. By integrating sustainability into every aspect of our business, we are shaping the future of packaging, and ensuring a better world for our future generations.
